OUR LADY OF LOURDE:

"OUR LADY OF LOURDE" is a title of the blessed virgin Mary invoked by Catholicsin honour of the marian apparitions which is said to have taken place before various individuals on separate occasions around Lourde, France. The most prominent among these is the apparition of 11th february 1858, when Saint Bernadette soubirous, a 14 year old peasant girl admitted to her mother that a"lady" spoke to her in the cave of massabielle, while gathering firewood with hersister and a friend.Similar appearances of the 'lady' were reported on seventeen further occasions that year.

Lourde has become one of the world's most famous pilgrimage centres on account of its innumerable miracles by St. Mary. A basilica was built on the rock above thegrotto in accordance with our lady's request to St. Bernadette. Devout pilgrims thronged to the shrine from the very beginning. The first of the national pilgrimagesarrived in 1872. It is now estimated that about a million pilgrims visit Lourde everyyear. The miracles of our lady at Lourde are a wonderful reputation of the errors of our materialistic age and of modern day atheists, leading the church to declareher feast - day, a day of "healing" in recent times.
