The government of Tamil Nadu has taken the decision to close all the schools in the state from today, March 22. The schools will remain closed for the time being and the date of reopening has not been communicated by the government yet.The decision to close the schools was taken to ensure the safety of students amid the spike in Covid-19 cases across the state. Though the schools have been closed for students of classes 9 to 11, the students of classes 12 will still have to appear for physical lessons.

An official notice was released by the Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, where it stated that the increasing cases of Covid-19 in the state are a ‘public health concern’ and under these circumstances, it is not advisable to continue physical classes for students of classes 9, 10 and 11.
The students of class 12 have been permitted to attend offline lessons in schools in Tamil Nadu as the number of students is less and they have to appear for the board exams in the upcoming months, which are crucial for their future.

Online classes in Tamil Nadu

As the government has approved the closure of schools for all the students except for those in class 12, the school authorities will be conducting online classes for these students until further notice. The schools will be reopened after the Covid-19 situation is under control in the state.
